why aren’t there more mysteries that take place in nursing homes & retirement communities. i want to watch a group of deranged retirees-cum-amateur-detectives combine their powers of:

  • decades of life experience
  • boredom-fueled busybody shamelessness
  • access to the most gossipy next-door-neighbors in existence
  • “I am too old to be arrested and/or give a shit” attitude

and solve crimes. this should be an enormous subgenre.

flattered that my tags passed peer review:

#their sidekick/Watson/pet hacker is a 15 year old grandkid who hangs out with gram gram on the weekends. her only power is that she has above average search engine skills and flexible knees–which is completely sufficient to round out the group’s skill set.

#they involve her in heist style operations. on the rare occasion she gets caught housebreaking she explains her grandma locked herself out of the condo and asked for help getting in. then this sweet slightly addled old lady shows up and explains she got the address mixed up, it’s so confusing when you’re old & all the houses look alike and oh she’s so sorry to have caused so much trouble!……and meanwhile the teenager is rolling her eyes bc she’s aware gram gram was a highly successful career criminal & con artist for 50 years.

ANYway gimme a 80+-year-old con-artist-turned-amateur-sleuth who loves getting older because people are less suspicious of little old ladies (#this all takes place in florida naturally)

because of the many, many comments, i have now read all of the Thursday Murder Club books. I am pleased to report they are DELIGHTFUL.

if you like charming/stubborn old ladies and grumpy/shy old men who solve (and commit) crimes for fun–here you go!

(this series is also fun and poignant and contains senior citizens embracing modern values & the changing world & and basically living their best lives at 70/80+. and it’s great.)

A question, does Lucio's prosthetic arm work or does it just hang on his shoulder? And if the other LI lost an arm what design of their prosthetic arm would be

bastart13:

Honest question: have you played the game?

Not only is he posed in a lot of the art using his arm, he’s often described using his arm in narration, and even purely in-universe, why would Lucio kidnap and force two alchemists to build him a prosthetic arm if it wasn’t going to do anything?

But onto hypotheticals!

It’s kind of cute thinking about what approaches they’d have to needing a prosthetic.

  • I feel like Asra’s would be either made by his parents or self-made, ironically resembling Lucio’s arm the most because of those influences. But it’d definitely have more interesting use in channeling magic.
  • Julian’s would be similarly self-made/scrapped together. Lots of exposed metal and leather straps with more of a hook and crude joint than any life-like articulation. I imagine they’d be some magic element but a lot more downplayed.
  • In contrast, Muriel’s is almost all magic. He carved the pieces himself and worked with Asra to fix it in place. While it acts a lot more like a natural arm, I think it’s more prone to shorting out.
  • Nadia’s is definitely designed by herself. Even if she had the pieces made and enchanted by other artisans, it’s mechanical and elegant in a way only she could design. Like Lucio’s, it can have additional covers and accesories.
  • And Portia’s is probably the least expensive and a gift from Mazelinka. It’s another case where it’s magical, but Portia never knew the extent of it. It’s cute, wooden, and jointed like a doll, with a practical hook, and she spent the first days with painting it.

I can’t speak for every screen reader, but if you listen to this post on VoiceOver it reads almost perfectly.

For those without a screen reader that transitions between English and Japanese so easily (or sight readers who can’t read Japanese): the symbols are Japanese Katakana. Each symbol represents a phonetic syllable. The entire post is just making puns with that, except for the first post, which is just OP being upset that [shi] and [tsu] look so similar.

This isn’t really a plain language transcription, but more of…a sort of translation?
